History

It is ETREMA Products, Inc.’s (EPI) mission to achieve worldwide leadership in high technology products and systems that utilize electromagnetics.
EPI is a designer and manufacturer of technology driven, high value systems based on electromagnetics; including magnetostrictive smart materials Terfenol-D and Galfenol. ETREMA operates in three key business areas:

• Standard Products; standard actuators and magnetostrictive material (Terfenol-D and Galfenol) sales
• Systems; such as Active Machining Systems
• Engineering Services; developing new products for our customers

ETREMA Products, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Edge Technologies, Inc. established in 1987 to primarily commercialize Terfenol-D, transferring the technology from laboratory discovery to industry. During this time period, the technology for producing Terfenol-D was fully transferred from the DOE’s Ames Laboratory to ETREMA Products, Inc., granting EPI the ability to start small-scale production of the material.

In 1993, EPI built a world-class facility in Ames, Iowa with the ability to house, develop and manufacture Terfenol-D. In addition, EPI added a diverse Engineering team to create custom solutions utilizing Terfenol-D technology. Since that time, EPI has expanded its core competencies adding Galfenol, Closed-Loop Controls, and Systems Development; including extensive work on complex electromagnetic systems for the marine seismic industry.
